   每年農曆「清明」節氣的前一日,瓊林蔡氏家族在太武山麓的「徑林祖墳」,按例都有「掛墓紙」的墓祭習俗,然後合族合食於祖墳旁,俗稱為「皇帝做,乞丐吃」!
  「皇帝做,乞丐吃」的場面,昨天又在太武山麓瓊林五世祖的墓旁呈現。雖然「皇帝做,乞丐吃」的形式略有調整,但基本的精神還在-總共有數百個瓊林裔孫,從金門各地,從臺灣、海外、大陸匯集於此。
  蔡氏子弟蔡志鴻說:家鄉是一個再忙、再遠都想回來的地方;祭祖是一個「美麗的束縛」-「祂」把鄉親及親情緊緊綁住了。他說:我喜歡-這個「美麗的束縛」!
  瓊林蔡氏是金門的「文武世家」,明清兩代曾出過七個進士、八個舉人、十五個貢生、六個武將、二十七個國子監生、八十個生員;到現在還是人才輩出的地方。
  據族人蔡青木表示,由於出仕的人多,對於祭祀的禮儀非常講究,用於祭祀的餚饌卻很樸實;因此被稱為「皇帝做,乞丐吃」。
  根據族人蔡福祿、蔡顯清、蔡顯明等人的說明,墓祭及合食所用的供品及餚饌律定為麵線盤、白斬雞、蒸魚、蒜仔肉、清蒸芋頭與湯類,在概念上都是一些家常菜餚而非珍貴美味。
  「皇帝做,乞丐吃」有被人揶揄的成分,也有被人尊敬的美德。瓊林蔡氏宗親會董事長蔡是民表示,蔡家是鼓勵子弟求功名的,但是前提是要能夠清廉!
  瓊林蔡氏的五世祖蔡靜山是真正開廓基業的「不祧之祖」;因為有他,所以有後來的文武世家。蔡是民表示,五世祖的墓不立文字,卻有一個光芒四射的太陽石刻,意思是有太陽光的地方,就有瓊林子孫!
  過去,瓊林蔡家舉辦墓祭時,要挑柴,挑灶,挑水上山煮食,席地而食,不用桌子,不用椅子-這樣的做法,有崇尚節儉及戒絕「囂掰」(囂張)的蘊意。
  隨著時空遞嬗,鋪地為席的做法已經成為過去式;如今,合食時,為上有棚蔭,中有桌有面,甚至於下有座椅。棚與椅都是金防部體恤族人中老者居多,因此而代為準備的。
  昨天參加墓祭的蔡氏家族,大多仍是立食合食,甚至有一桌中壯者仍把桌面置於地面,為的是原始反終,回味昔時席地合食的傳統-他們是蔡其城、蔡阿明(瓊林保護廟下檀爺乩童)、蔡滄能、蔡在水(瓊林保護廟金王爺乩童)、蔡忠仁、蔡金豪等。
  他們說,以前無棚無桌,在清明時節雨紛紛的情況下,狼狽萬分,不知該怎麼下嚥;加上軍管時代,動輒受限;如今,軍方反而成了蔡氏家族的志工,給了全面的服務,實在是不可同日而語。
  參加了「皇帝做,乞丐吃」的瓊林墓祭與合食,瓊林子弟蔡顯鑫、蔡志雄表示:這是臺灣社會及資本主義社會消失的文化與道德傳統;慎終追遠是道德也是文化,在祭祀時,子孫要感恩祖先的庇蔭,向祖先報告自己將如何做一個好人,又或是努力揚眉吐氣,以求光宗耀祖。
  蔡顯鑫說:一個地方、一個國家能夠偉大,靠的是文化,而不是資本主義!
